Race Day for the 5K Northside Street Race on May 16 dawned more like late winter than mid-spring; it was really cold and blustery! But, of course, runners show up no matter what the weather… and they were fast! First place finisher, Joseph Mahoney’s time was 15.52 and the first woman who crossed the finish line, Susie Emond, clocked in at 17.28.  At 9am, the Swat Trot (kids 12 and under) began. They were wonderful! Of course, each runner received a blue ribbon–and a lollipop. All runners received bright green 5K T-shirts. Some of the smallest runners had T-shirts to their shoe tops — lots of fun to watch and the kids ran proudly.

After the races, the MPD Special Operations Center (SOC)/4th Precinct held their Open House. Police Activities League (PAL), the WCNO and FNA community table, free food, and other displays were held inside the gym. Outside, the Bomb Squad, Horse Patrol, Squads, Mobile Command and more were set up for the public to watch demonstrations and ask questions; plus, there was music and six new bikes were given away to lucky kids.
